What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are anti-aging products that are injected into the skin of patients to add volume. They are injected to make skin that is sagging or has become wrinkled because of age look smooth and plump. They are also called injectable facial fillers, injectable cosmetic fillers or soft tissue fillers.  They are made of hyaluronic acid taken from animals or from the fat of the patient. It takes five minutes to an hour to perform dermal filler procedures.  

How long do Dermal Fillers last?

Dermal fillers last from six months to five years. They are not permanent and are absorbed by the skin over time.  

Is the administration of Dermal Fillers painful?

Local anaesthetic is applied to the skin before dermal filler injections are administered. Patients will feel the pain of the injection during the procedure and after the anaesthetic wears off, for a few days. Some fillers contain an analgesic substance called lidocaine. These fillers are less painful than other fillers.   

When can I travel by air after the administration of Dermal Fillers?

Patients should wait one week after getting dermal fillers injected before travelling by air. Air travel can aggravate the swelling and bruising that may occur after dermal fillers are injected.   

How long does recovery take after the administration of Dermal Fillers?

Recovery from dermal filler injections may take seven to fourteen days. Recovery depends on each individual patient.  

What after care is required after the administration of Dermal Fillers?

Patients should avoid smoking and drinking alcohol until any swelling has subsided. They should avoid touching their face for at least one day. They should avoid going in direct sunlight for at least two days. They should drink plenty of water after the treatment. They should not get any beauty treatments done on their face for at least a week. They should avoid strenuous exercises and lifting heavy objects for at least a month. They should avoid blood thinning medications for a few weeks.  Patients should perform facial exercises for a few hours after the procedure.

After suffering from a painful wisdom tooth for quite some time, Abbey Dental Care took care of me. I saw Dr Bailey who was fantastic with me, he prescribed much-needed antibiotics to sort the infection and then referred me to see Dr Joe Gray who extracted the tooth. I was extremely nervous as this was not a straightforward extraction, in terms of how the tooth was growing, where it was growing and also with bone growing over the tooth. The very talented Dr Gray made sure I was comfortable and giving me as many breaks as I needed during the procedure. I can not recommend Abbey Dental Care enough and certainly the Dr's I saw and not to forget the dental nurses who also was fantastic. Along with pleasant reception staff who was also very kind. Made sure I was looked after throughout. Thank Abbey Dental Care

I would like to say a big thank you to Dr Ash for giving me back my self-confidence! I had several unsightly lesions on my scalp which had caused me much embarrassment and distress over many years as they were visible through my thinning hair. Although I was told by GPs these lesions were benign (seborrhoeac keratosis) and therefore did not warrant removal, also that I was likely to lose my hair in the process, I was so relieved at my first consultation with Dr Ash when she said she could remove them altogether and I would not lose my hair! She explained the procedure to me and I was completely convinced and excited that at last someone was able to help me feel better about my appearance again! I have now completed the course of treatment, which was painless and I am delighted with the results! Dr Ash was so kind and caring throughout my experience, I felt completely relaxed the whole time. I am now looking forward to receiving further treatment with Dr Ash for my thinning hair. DERMAL FILLERS What are dermal fillers and how do they work?  The Dermal Fillers that I use are 100% hyaluronic acid based”, wrinkle-filling products.  These products are highly biocompatible and are slowly absorbed. Naturally present in the skin, hyaluronic acid preserves moisturising levels in the skin and boosts tone.  Hyaluronic acid is a powerful moisturising agent, the quantity of which in the dermis gradually decreases with age. As a result, the skin dries out and becomes fragile, and the first wrinkles appear. The tissues progressively sag and the face becomes hollow. Will it Hurt?  Dermal fillers are relatively painless because the gel is injected directly into the skin in very tiny amounts at a time using an ultra fine needle, although sensitivity can vary dependent on which areas of the face are being treated. Some patients may notice a slight throbbing or even stinging following injection, but this discomfort fades away shortly after. The procedure is very simple and convenient, with practically instant results! You should be able to resume normal activities directly after treatment. How long will it take to work?  After receiving your treatment, you will notice the effects immediately. You may also notice some temporary mild swelling but this will usually disappear in approximately 24 hours How long does it last?  The Dermal Fillers treatment can and should last between six and eighteen months (depending on volume and areas being treated) with no need to protect the treatment or use any cosmetics to increase it’s length, potency or effect.  Where can be treated?  Dermal fillers can be injected into the entire face (including the lips), neckline, neck and hands.
