Complete dentures cover your entire jaw, either upper or lower. It rests directly on the gum that covers the bone. When it comes to dentures the most common source of agony is a bad fit. It’s something that’s hard to avoid since your gums are between a rock and a hard place. The rock is your jawbone, and that hard place is the hard acrylic liner that holds the prosthetic teeth. While some people can wear dentures without a single complaint, most denture wearers feel some discomfort. Reasons for discomfort and denture misfit are related to the ever-changing conditions in the mouth. Hard dentures don’t adjust to new shapes and hence most long-time denture wearers end up using some form of adhesive to increase stability while wearing their dentures.

Removable partial dentures are often composed of a metal framework with plastic teeth and gum areas. The framework includes metal clasps or other attachments, which hold the denture in place.

These are porcelain dentures cemented in place and better simulate natural teeth. Bridges are more expensive than removable partial dentures and require healthy adjacent teeth to support them. A crown is placed over the adjace tooth, contains the "keyhole." The denture contains the "key." When you put in your denture, the "key" fits into the "keyhole" in the crown. This type of denture looks better because there are no clasps and it also fits tighter.
