The value of the services made the 2 1/2 hour drive well worth it

5 50 Dental Crowns • Paid: $1

My wife had 2 crowns done in 2 trips and found the experience very good. It was a bit of a drive for us, but the value of the services made the 2 1/2 hour drive well worth it.

The office is clean and neat. The treatment room is adequately full of necessary dental equipment and the English spoken was more than sufficient to take care of questions.

Bone Graft

Bone Graft - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezBone Graft - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

This is the process in which the dentist uses bone grafts to build up a thin or shrunken jawbone. If you are considering an implant but dental x-rays and/or CAT scan show that you have a thin jawbone as a result of bone loss then a graft will be necessary

Your jaw may show advanced bone loss as a result of the ageing process, prolonged denture wear, missing teeth, periodontal gum disease or as a result of an accident.

Braces

Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezBraces - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Dental braces (also known as orthodontic braces, or simply braces) are devices used in orthodontics that align and straighten teeth and help to position them with regard to a persons bite, while also working to improve dental health. They are often used to correct underbites, as well as malocclusions, overbites, cross bites, open bites, deep bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw. Braces can be either cosmetic or structural. Dental braces or orthodontic braces are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to help widen the palate or jaws and to otherwise assist in shaping the teeth and jaws.

Adult Braces

Adult Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezAdult Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Thinking about getting braces? Experts say it's never too late. These days, adults make up nearly half of orthodontic patients hoping to finally get the perfect smile they've always dreamed about.

Braces have evolved considerably in the last 15 years. The days of being a true "metal mouth" are over and more lightweight and cosmetically friendly options are out there.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezCeramic Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are very much biocompatible with natural teeth. They don’t stain your teeth like metal braces do. Patients are more comfortable with ceramic orthodontic braces and prefer them to metallic braces. After the removal of braces, teeth will bear a natural shiny look as there will be no stain marks and no need of extra whitening treatment.

Child Braces

Child Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezChild Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

In the past, children who wore braces usually began their orthodontic treatment as teenagers. But now, orthodontists (dentists who specialize in correcting the position of the teeth) suggest starting younger for better results. Children should be evaluated for braces by age 7, according to the American Association of Orthodontics.

Fixed Braces

Fixed Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezFixed Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Fixed braces can be metal or ceramic on the front of your teeth or metal on the inside surface so they are hidden from view.

Lingual Braces

Lingual Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezLingual Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez
  • Lingual braces (examples of which are Harmony, SureSmile QT, Incognito Braces) are custom made fixed braces bonded to the back of the teeth making them invisible to other people. In lingual braces the brackets are cemented onto the backside of the teeth making them invisible while in standard braces the brackets are cemented onto the front side of the teeth. Hence, lingual braces are a cosmetic alternative to those who do not wish the braces to be visible.

Metal Braces

Metal Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezMetal Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez
  • Traditional metal wired braces are stainless steel and are sometimes used in combination with titanium. Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces. These braces have a metal bracket with elastic (rubber band) ties holding the wire onto the metal brackets. The second most common type of braces are self ligating braces that do not require the need of elastic ties. Instead, the wire goes through the bracket. Often with this type of braces, treatment time is reduced, there is less pain on the teeth, and requires less adjustments than traditional braces.

Orthodontic Retainer

Orthodontic Retainer - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezOrthodontic Retainer - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Orthodontic retainers are custom-made devices, made usually of wires or clear plastic, that hold teeth in position after surgery or any method of realigning teeth. They are most often used before or after dental braces to hold teeth in position while assisting the adjustment of the surrounding gums to changes in the bone. Most patients are required to wear their retainer(s) every night at first, with many also being directed to wear them during the day - at least initially. There are four types of retainers typically prescribed by orthodontists and dentists: Hawley, Essix, Zendura, and Bonded (Fixed) retainers.

Removable Braces

Removable Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezRemovable Braces - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Removable braces are usually worn only on your upper teeth. They are kept in by metal clips that fit over the teeth at the front and back. It does not hurt to get a removable brace fitted. Visit 1 An impression is taken of your upper teeth. This is a short appointment lasting only five minutes. The impression is sent to our technician, who will then make the brace for us. This takes about one week. Visit 2 The brace is fitted over your upper teeth very easily. We will show you how to take it in and out and you will have the opportunity to practice. When should you wear the brace? If you want your teeth to straighten , you should wear the brace all the time, including at mealtimes and while sleeping. The only times the brace should be taken out are: ¦When cleaning your teeth morning and night ¦After mealtimes, to clean the brace ¦If playing contact sports

CAD/CAM Dental Restorations

CAD/CAM Dental Restorations - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezCAD/CAM Dental Restorations - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Typically CAD/CAM dental restorations are milled from solid blocks of ceramic or composite resin closely matching the basic shade of the restored tooth. Metal alloys may also be milled or otherwise digitally produced. After decayed or broken areas of the tooth are corrected by the dentist, an image (scan) is taken of the prepared tooth and the surrounding teeth. This image, called a digital impression, draws the data into a computer. Then proprietary software is used to create a replacement part for the missing areas of the tooth, essentially creating a virtual restoration. This is called reverse engineering. The software sends this virtual data to a milling machine where the replacement part for the defect (the dental restoration) is carved out of a solid block of ceramic or composite resin. Stains and glazes are fired to the surfaces of the milled ceramic crown or bridge to correct the otherwise monochromatic appearance of the restoration. The resulting restoration can then be adjusted in the patient’s mouth and cemented or bonded in place. Depending on the restorative material, cementing/bonding surface areas on the tooth and the restoration may be respectively etched and silanized. Resin cement is then used to fuse the restoration to the prepared tooth, completing the restorative treatment process.

CEREC Dental Restorations

CEREC Dental Restorations - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezCEREC Dental Restorations - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

CEREC restoration refers to the dentistry procedure where restoration involving the laying of dental crowns, veneers, inlay or onlay which are completed in just a single visit to a dentist. With CEREC – which is sited as standing for both CERamic REConstruction and Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics – the dentist utilizes state-of-the-art computer technology, including CAD (Computer Aided Design), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and 3D photography to precisely carry out the restoration. Similar technologies such as ‘Sirona CEREC inLab’ also allow dental implants to be custom made.

Dental Bonding

Dental Bonding - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezDental Bonding - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Bonding is a composite resin filling placed in the back teeth as well as the front teeth. Composites are the solution for restoring decayed teeth, making cosmetic improvements and even changing the color of your teeth or the reshaping of teeth. Bonding will lighten any stains you may have, close up minor gaps and can be used to correct crooked teeth. Basically, bonding will cover any natural flaws applying a thin coating of a plastic material on the front surface of your teeth. After this, your cosmetic dentist will apply a bonding material and sculpt, color and shape it to provide a pleasing result. A high-intensity light then hardens the plastic, and the surface is finely polished.

Dental Bridges

Dental Bridges - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezDental Bridges - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap – these two anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth – and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.

3-Unit Bridge

3-Unit Bridge - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez3-Unit Bridge - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Replacing one single missing tooth with a 3 unit bridge was the most effective tooth replacement treatment prior to dental implants becoming available. This particular type of dental bridge comprises of three prosthetic teeth joined alongside each other in a row, the tooth in the centre bridges the gap with the false teeth on each side being attached over 2 healthy natural teeth.

Implant Bridge

PFM Bridge

PFM Bridge - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezPFM Bridge - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) bridges consist of a metal core inside and a layer of porcelain outside blended together. PFM bridges look just like normal teeth.

BENEFITS:

  • Unlike purely metal tooth bridges, shade will be matched to the color of existing teeth.
  • Porcelain provides the most natural final appearance of any other dental bridge material.
  • PFM bridges can be used on both the hidden and prominent teeth.
  • PFM crowns are of better quality when they are high in noble metal inside.
  • They are durable and have enough the strength.

Porcelain Bridge

Porcelain Bridge - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezPorcelain Bridge - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

A Porcelain Bridge is a dental bridge that is completely made of porcelain. Porcelain is an excellent material, since it is both extremely strong and cosmetic. Also, technological advances continue to improve the durability of porcelain bridges, allowing them to handle higher biting forces.

Temporary Bridge

Temporary Bridge - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezTemporary Bridge - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

A temporary bridge can be used for many purposes besides protecting prepared teeth while a permanent dental bridge is being made in a dental laboratory. It can be made from acrylic or dental composite material. Regardless of the material used, it must be highly polished to avoid irritating the gums and possibly causing gum recession. In many case, the restoration can even be used to chew.

Routine Dental Examination

Routine Dental Examination - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezRoutine Dental Examination - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

During your routine dental check-up, your dentist may also recommend the proper brushing and flossing techniques if he finds that you are not keen in your oral health. He may also encourage you to use antiseptic mouthwash. He may also make some recommendations like a visit to a Periodontist if he founds out that you have severe or gum disease that is rapidly developing.

Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezDental Crowns - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth.[1] They are typically bonded to the tooth using a dental cement. Crowns can be made from many materials, which are usually fabricated using indirect methods. Crowns are often used to improve the strength or appearance of teeth. While inarguably beneficial to dental health, the procedure and materials can be relatively expensive

Gold Crown

Gold Crown - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezGold Crown - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez
  • Gold used in crowns include gold alloy, other alloys (for example, palladium), or a base-gold alloy (for example, nickel or ). Compared with other crown types, less tooth structure needs to be removed with gold crowns, and tooth wear to opposing teeth is kept to a minimum. goldcrowns withstand biting and chewing forces well and probably last the longest in terms of wear down. Also, metal crowns rarely chip or break. The metallic color is the main drawback. Gold crowns are a good choice for out-of-sight molars.

Dental Implants

Dental Implants - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezDental Implants - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.

Immediate Implant Placement

Immediate Implant Placement - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezImmediate Implant Placement - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

The immediate implant placement is today a routine approach. However, it must fulfill a series of conditions, between which is the achievement of a good initial anchorage, like in conventional implantology. This initial fixation normally is looked for creating the bed beyond the apex of the extracted piece, that is why some colleagues also denominate them trans-alveolus immediate implants

Mini Implants

Mini Implants - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezMini Implants - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Mini-implants are one of the most controversial topics in dentistry.  There’s a lot of misinformation and confusion on the topic.  First let’s define what we mean by mini-implants.  Conventional implants are 3.7mm in diameter or greater, hybrid implants are 3.0-3.7mm in diameter and Mini-implants are less than 3.0mm in diameter.

A consultation usually starts with a patients forms detailing his or her complete medical and dental history, as well as any medications or supplements taken, and forms of consent. The doctor will study the patients medical and dental history and ask for a detailed description of the symptoms the patient is experiencing. Then he or she will conduct a thorough clinical exam and take radiographs or x-rays of any teeth/areas of the mouth involved in the issue. A comprehensive set of x-rays from multiple angles may be required. This will reveal potential difficulties such as blocked canals or unusual canal curvatures and give the doctor an accurate visualization of the tooth, pulp chamber, and surrounding bone.

Extractions

Extractions - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezExtractions - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

A dental extraction (also referred to as exodontia) is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, including tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to render the tooth non-restorable. Extractions of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as are extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.

Surgical Extractions

Surgical Extractions - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezSurgical Extractions - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Every tooth extraction is different. Some are simple and some require more extensive procedures. Surgical extraction is required whenever the tooth cannot be removed by simple forcep extraction. Conditions that warrant surgical removal would include cracked teeth, impacted teeth, severely decayed teeth, or any condition that makes the extraction a bit difficult. This type of tooth extraction is routine in our office and is nothing to be afraid of.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Fillings

Fillings - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezFillings - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. When a dentist gives you a filling, he or she first removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cleaned out cavity with a filling material.

Porcelain Filling

Porcelain Filling - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezPorcelain Filling - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Composite, resin, or white fillings have been around for about two decades. Composite fillings are composed of an organic polymer known as bisphenol-A-glycidyl methacrylate (BIS-GMA), and inorganic particles such as quartz, borosilicate glass, and lithium aluminum silicate. They have the advantage of requiring a more conservative tooth preparation, (less drilling required), can have a strengthening effect on the tooth, and are very aesthetic, virtually blending in with the tooth. Composite fillings are the material of choice for repairing the front teeth. On the down side, they are more technique sensitive for the dentist to place, and are highly susceptible to decay in the future if placed improperly. They usually cost more than an amalgam, and recent research has shown that a by-product of some resin restorations called bisphenol-A may be estrogenic and increase the risk of breast cancer. Despite this research composite fillings are considered safe, and like the other dental filling materials, they are approved by the American Dental Association.

Root Filling

Root Filling - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezRoot Filling - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

A root filling can be a cost-effective way to treat teeth using damaged pulp and is usually less expensive than extraction and placement of a bridge or an implant. Root treated teeth also have a very high success rate and can last a lifetime.

Temporary Filling

Temporary Filling - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezTemporary Filling - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Temporary adhesive restorative materials are an appropriate means for cavities or emergency interim sealing. However, little research is available on the effectiveness of contemporary provisional filling materials. In endodontic treatments an outer adhesive seal can prevent coronal re-infection until the placement of the final restoration.

White Filling

White Filling - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezWhite Filling - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Tooth colored white fillings are an attractive alternative to traditional metal fillings. They do not stand out visually like metal fillings, but match your teeth and are virtually undetectable. The material used is known as dental bonding, the same substance used for the procedure called dental bonding. It is a white, durable resin which comes in subtly different shades so Dr. Sands can choose the shade which best matches your natural teeth.

Gingivitis Treatment

Gingivitis Treatment - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezGingivitis Treatment - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Gingivitis ("inflammation of the gum tissue") is a term used to describe non-destructive periodontal disease.[1] The most common form of gingivitis is in response to bacterial biofilms (also called plaque) adherent to tooth surfaces, termed plaque-induced gingivitis, and is the most common form of periodontal disease. In the absence of treatment, gingivitis may progress to periodontitis, which is a destructive form of periodontal disease

Gum Surgery

Gum Surgery - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezGum Surgery - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Your gum tissue is like a frame that provides form and shape to the top of your tooth. A less than attractive smile results when the integrity of the gum is compromised or the actual gum between your teeth becomes weak. Usually due to poor hygiene (gum disease), you actually begin to lose gum tissue. Cosmetic dentistry provides many cosmetic solutions such as composite resin bonding, crowns, and veneers to create a great smile. These solutions are usually part of an overall strategy which may involve cosmetic gum surgery. Used to correct a gummy smile (a significant portion of your gum is exposed when you smile), cosmetic gum surgery is the procedure of lengthening your teeth from the neck of the tooth upwards. Your teeth then appear to be longer and much less gum is seen when you smile.

Gum Contouring and Reshaping

Gum Contouring and Reshaping - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezGum Contouring and Reshaping - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

The goal of tooth contouring and reshaping is to change the size or shape of the teeth so that slightly damaged or out of proportion teeth are brought back into alignment with the rest. In essence a cosmetic procedure, it is most often performed on the upper central, lateral, and canine teeth. Beyond the outward benefits, there are often oral health gains, too, as smoothing the teeth and repairing overlaps can make them easier to clean, reducing the risk of The primary consideration for the suitability of cavities and gum disease. Reshaping can also be used to correct minor problems with bite and function.

Soft Tissue Grafts

Soft Tissue Grafts - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezSoft Tissue Grafts - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Some peoples gums are naturally very thin. This increases the likelihood they will recede. In these cases, a soft-tissue graft may be done to prevent problems in the future.

Implant Dentist Consultation

Implant Dentist Consultation - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezImplant Dentist Consultation - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Dental implant consultations are a critical part of the process of placing dental implants in any patient. Dr. Lokhandwala will evaluate the condition of the gums and jaw bone before recommending placement of the dental implant. In order to do this intraoral and panoramic x-rays will be taken. StarBrite Dental uses digital panoramic imaging and so all this can be done in one sitting in our offices. Depending on various factors and the amount of diagnostic work required, this "consultation/records visit" may be charged. If the patient has dental insurance a significant (if not all) portion of this dental implant initial visit is covered.

Inlay or Onlay

Guaranteed for 5 years.

It is the most ideal solution among the conservative treatments since this is a kind of filling the shape of which can be formed with the most aesthetic result. This is the only type of filling that improves with time. The reason is that the golden filling strikes against the tooth when chewing, more precisely, the filling border adheres closely to the tooth without leaving any space, thus preventing later decay

Composite Resin Inlay or Onlay

Composite Resin Inlay or Onlay - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezComposite Resin Inlay or Onlay - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

The present study measured the diametral compressive strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity of compositeresins used in inlay/onlay systems. The effect of additional curing also was determined. SR-Isosit material had the highest diametral compressive strength, and SR-Isosit-Dentin material had the lowest flexural strength. The SR-Isosit compositeresins had lowest elastic modulus and Estilux posterior C VS resin the highest. A negative correlation was found between diametral compressive strength and elastic modulus of the materials. It was concluded that the additional curing of Brilliant resin did not result in improved mechanical properties. For Estilux resin, additional curing increased flexural strength and modulus of elasticity.

Porcelain Inlay or Onlay

Porcelain Inlay or Onlay - DDS Luis Ochoa HernandezPorcelain Inlay or Onlay - DDS Luis Ochoa Hernandez

Dental inlays and onlays are solid fillings used to restore damaged or decayed teeth. They restore beauty, strength and function of the tooth. Inlays and onlays are often needed when there is not enough healthy tissue left in the tooth to support a regular filling. (If a tooth is severely damaged, a crown may be necessary to cover the entire surface instead of an inlay or onlay.) Unlike regular fillings, they strengthen rather than weaken teeth. Inlays lie within the cusps, or bumps, on the surface of a tooth, while onlays cover one or more cusps. They are often placed over two visits: one in which the tooth is prepared, a temporary filling is placed and an impression is made, and one in which the specially constructed inlay or onlay is cemented onto the tooth. Inlays and onlays made of composite resin or porcelain are tooth-colored, while those made of gold alloy offer increased strength and durability.

A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, typically using a resin cement such as Panavia.
