What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges, also called tooth bridges, are placed when patients have one or more teeth missing or have gaps between their teeth. It usually takes two visits to get dental bridges fitted and the procedure takes about two hours.

What different types of dental bridges are there?

Traditional dental bridges consist of two crowns placed on healthy teeth on either side of the missing teeth, or gap, and the bridge then covers the gap supported by the two crowns. Cantilever bridges are placed when there are healthy teeth only on one side of the bridge. Maryland bridges are bonded to the backs of teeth on either side of the bridge and are not connected to crowns. Implant retained bridges are bridges that are placed over implants fixed in the gums. These bridges are placed when several implants are surgically inserted.   

Is fitting dental bridges painful?

The dentist will numb the area where the dental bridge is to be placed before performing the procedure. Patients will not feel any pain during the procedure.

When can I travel by air after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should be able to fly two days after fitting their dental bridge. If they feel any pain or sensitivity after the procedure, they should consult their dentist for medications or postpone their journey till the pain or sensitivity has abated.    

How long does recovery after fitting dental bridges take?

If patients feel pain or sensitivity after a dental bridge is fitted, they should recover within a week.  

How do I care for my teeth after fitting dental bridges?

Patients should follow a normal dental hygiene routine. Patients should brush and floss their teeth and maintain proper hygiene. Patients should avoid eating or drinking anything that is too hot, cold or too hard, for at least a week after the procedure.

I had a consultation. Seemed very thorough; he took x-rays and explained everything. The girls at reception were very friendly and did their best to get me an appointment that suited. They even offered to take me during their lunchtime. They are allowing me to spread the payments to make it fit my budget. Having treatment next week, but so far everything was very good.

Going here often In the last few years for various dental procedures absolutely excellent service, Seamús and Hannah are amazing and have your best interests in mind at all times and go above and beyond expectation. Had treatment with Patrick O'Connor and Caroline. Put me at ease as soon I walked into the room. Very good at explaining everything and even go as far as walking you to the door after a procedure. Very professional Staff. As soon as I walked into the clinic for my 1st ever appointment was met by Tanya. A lovely friendly personality that straight way put me at ease and always rings few times in advance let me know bout my next appointment. I could not praise this dentist practice enough. I would really recommend this clinic. I had a root canal done on a molar tooth. With Hannah, I found her to be an excellent dentist and really gentle too. She would be great for nervous patients. It cost 550E and was done over 2 appointments. I found this to be a very professional and friendly clinic. Everything was explained before going ahead with treatment. I would really recommend this clinic. When I first contacted the clinic, they said I could call in for them to assess the tooth and they didn't charge. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. The treatment was really good and Hannah is a great dentist.

Replace old fillings A great experience I would go to the dentist regularly over the years. The shields dental clinic is the best by far. They are now our family dentist and would highly recommend them. In all the years going to the dentist it's probably the first time getting a proper check up.

My past experience of dental treatment many years ago left me petrified of dentists. I have recently had to seek treatment for extreme pain, and after much deliberation and contact with practices, I chose Ivory Dental. My choice was based on my initial contact with the real feeling of understanding my fear. Having gone to the surgery to meet Dr. Nicola Zammit, she and her team worked with me to alleviate that fear and go forward for the necessary treatment which involved some work under sedation. Nicola and all the team were there every step of the way, and I, as the patient, was the first priority. I have and will continue to sing their praises to my friends and family. Trust me, for someone who would not even walk past a dentist's surgery, Ivory Dental is the right choice to make. Only sorry I didn't do it sooner. Maria
