What is a root canal procedure?

Root canal procedures, or endodontics, is a treatment for the inner pulp of the tooth. They are performed to save teeth from extraction. The dentist or endodontist, a root canal specialist, cleans out the decayed or damaged pulp without breaking the exterior of the tooth root. The cleaned root canal is filled with a bio-compatible rubber-like material called gutta-percha. They are also performed for patients with damaged teeth caused by accidents or fractures. The treatment involves removing the pulp and at the end the cavity is sealed by a filling material. If root canal treatment is not carried out in time, the tooth may need to be extracted. I paid around 70 Euro for a check-up at this dentist. I’m not sure what other clinics are charging, but for a clean and a check, this seemed a bit expensive to me. That said, the service was great. I would recommend them. The clinic is clean and has everything you’d expect a clinic to have. It is a small clinic, so I felt like the staff were interested in me as a patient. I didn’t feel like I was just another number. They gave me all the attention I needed. It was a painless 25-minute check-up. The dentist was very skilled and knowledgeable. I thought he answered all my questions well and made some helpful product recommendations, too.

I was in agony over Christmas with a deep cavity in one of my back molars. I booked in to see a local dentist in Sutton and they advised an extraction was needed. They tried to pull the tooth but it was excruciating as the anaesthetic did not take. I could not go through with the extraction. Having previously undergone a root canal at Grand Canal Dental and experienced no pain, I booked an appointment with Dr. Tarpey in the hope that he could remove the tooth with minimal pain and he did not disappoint! I experienced no pain during or after the extraction. The standard of care I received was second to none. Can't recommend Grand Canal Dental enough.
