What is a root canal procedure?

Root canal procedures, or endodontics, is a treatment for the inner pulp of the tooth. They are performed to save teeth from extraction. The dentist or endodontist, a root canal specialist, cleans out the decayed or damaged pulp without breaking the exterior of the tooth root. The cleaned root canal is filled with a bio-compatible rubber-like material called gutta-percha. They are also performed for patients with damaged teeth caused by accidents or fractures. The procedure takes one to two hours to complete.

What are the types of root canal procedures?

Primary root canal treatments are performed using stainless steel files. Stainless steel files could remove only a small amount of infection and could easily break. The more advanced and flexible nickel titanium files do not break easily and are able to clean the entire infected area easily. Rotary instruments used to clean the root canal are quicker than manual instruments. Other advanced root canal procedures make use of ultrasound or laser to effectively clean the root canal.

Is a root canal procedure painful?

Root canal procedures are performed under local anaesthetic. Patients will not feel pain during the procedure.

What is the recovery time after having a root canal procedures?

Patients take about three days to recover after a root canal procedure. Some patients require a week to recover from a root canal procedure.

When can I travel by air after a root canal procedure?

It is safe to travel by air one day after a root canal procedure. Patients should check with their dentist before embarking on their journey. If they feel pain or discomfort, they should postpone their journey until it abates.

What care is required after a root canal procedure?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should not eat until the anaesthetic wears off. They should not eat or drink very hot or very cold food for at least a week. They should avoid eating hard food or sticky food. If swelling occurs they should sleep with their head raised for a few days to bring it down.

What are the alternatives to root canal procedures?

Alternatives to root canal procedures include extractions and pulp capping procedures.

I had a root canal, filling and tooth cleaning. I’m 50 and in my whole life, Dr. Frank Acusto is the best dentist. He is very professional, a caring dentist, a great person, he takes pride in his work and his patients.

Treatment left us very happy.Roberto, Canada, 28 May 15

Having confidence in your dentist and his practice is a big deal, which is why my wife and I travelled from Vancouver to Santo Domingo to see Dr. Frank Acosta. We went to do: (1) root canal for Bella, (2) cleanings, (3) new fillings, (4) whitening moulds made, and (5) 3D X-ray for teeth and jaw. We were extremely impressed with the attention, the facilities and, most importantly, the dentist's attention to detail and explanations. The facilities are simply world-class. The treatment and jobs done on both of us left us very, very happy. Our old and ugly-looking lead fillings were replaced with white, composite ones. Above and beyond the experience, we were able to make a vacation out of it and at a fraction of the price from what we would have paid in Canada. It will definitely be an annual visit for our little family.

Denstetica

00 1 829-954-8221 Torre Progreso Business Center, Suite 605., Av. Lope De Vega No. 13, Santo Domingo
Rating from 9 Reviews I would definitely recommend DensteticaMike, US, 23 Sep 16

I lost my #13 tooth 15 years ago due to lack of proper care and $. Last spring I got an implant while vacationing in Ecuador. After six months I was ready for the post and crown. At Denstetica Clinic in the DR, a close exam with X-rays showed I needed more work. In all I got, in addition to the post and crown on 13, root canals and crowns without posts on 18&19, an onlay over 14 (it had a previous root canal) and I whitened my teeth as a little extra for myself. All for less than what I was quoted in NY for just the 13 treatment. I had numerous responses to my inquiry on WhatClinic, all very courteous and professional. I opted for Denstetica because Tiffany, the receptionist, speaks English and answered all of my questions and concerns immediately or she would check and respond back shortly thereafter. She is actually a dentist herself so is very knowledgeable. The main dentist, Dr.Peña, also speaks English, another added plus for me. The office is upscale and modern utilizing cutting edge equipment and procedures. They offer safe complementary ground transportation along with lodging and dining suggestions. I would definitely recommend them. The prices may be a little more expensive than others locally but you get what you pay for. We all even went out the last night for drinks and to celebrate a job well done.
