Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy $5800 - $7500
VERTICAL SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY: The surgeon removes approximately 70-80 percent of the stomach laparoscopically and with the help of staplers so that the stomach takes the shape of a tube or “sleeve”, in such a way that the patient can continue eating, but in much smaller amount. In addition of being restrictive this procedure has seen that the hormone that regulates the appetite, the ghrelin, diminishes, causing the patient to not be hungry for at least a year from surgery. It has an average excess weight loss at 12 months of 66%, very similar to the bypass not being that invasive.

ROUX Y GASTRIC BYPASS: This is the most successful malpbsorptive surgery, average excess weight loss of 70% on 12 months . It involves creating a small stomach pouch that serves as a reservoir and restricts food intake. Then the surgeon creates a Y-shaped section in the small intestine that attaches to pouch and allows food to bypass the lower stomach and upper part of the intestine.
