My practice of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is focused on helping you to maximise your health. My aim is to help you fulfil your health potential, bringing you back into balance.
You have the potential to transform your health regardless of whether you are experiencing an ongoing chronic condition, stress, a recent injury or planning to have a family.
If you live in Kerry, you won’t have to drive too far as my clinics are conveniently located in Tralee and Killorglin. My aim is to help you feel at ease; comfortable, relaxed and confident so that we can achieve the best possible outcome for you.
I’ll discuss with you the development of your treatment plan which will be tailored to you as an individual. No two people are the same. You are unique! I focus on your uniqueness in order to best help you as we progress through your course of treatment.
My promise to you…
…to give you 100% of my attention during your treatment. This will consist of Acupuncture, dietary therapy (according to Chinese medicine principles), Qigong (Chinese medicine breathing, movement and use of the mind to restore internal balance) and other TCM modalities.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) dates back at least 2000-3000 years. Although it is an ancient system of medicine, it is still very much mainstream in the state hospitals in China and other parts of Asia. It is used alongside modern medicine in order to treat illness.
TCM takes a holistic view of the body which means that the whole person is treated. The parts of the body and mind are not treated as separate entities but rather connected and interrelated. The health or illness of the person is also influenced by other factors such as lifestyle, relationships and diet, all of which are taken into account so that the person can overcome illness or disease and restore balance to their body and mind.
What Are The Benefits Of Acupuncture?
- Medication-free pain relief
- Effective in the treatment of both acute and chronic conditions
- Because it is holistic (treats the whole body) by nature, Acupuncture helps to eliminate the underlying cause of the condition in addition to merely treating the symptoms
- Helps bring the body, mind and emotions back into a healthy balance, so is useful in the treatment of a wide range of physical, mental and emotional complaints
- Assists in the prevention of disease and the maintenance of general well-being
What Does An Acupuncture Treatment Involve?
Treatment involves the insertion of very fine, pre-sterilised, disposable needles at specific acupuncture points on the body to help restore health on a physical, psychological and emotional level.
Once the client’s medical history has been taken and they have answered questions about the nature of the medical complaint, I select 3-5 acupuncture points into which to insert needles, which remain in place for around 20 minutes.
What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?
Each person is different. During the insertion of needles, some people feel nothing, while others experience a small pinch and then a sensation of numbness, heaviness, cramping or tingling.
Acupuncture needles are solid and very fine, unlike needles used for vaccinations or to take blood, and therefore cause very little pain.
During an acupuncture session, clients often describe a feeling of calm and relaxation…..and may even fall asleep!
At the end of a session, the removal of the needles is painless.
What Can I Expect After Acupuncture Treatment?
Following treatment clients often experience positive changes. They may sleep much better and feel more relaxed.
Occasionally some people may experience slight mood changes and/or an alteration in bowel and bladder function. In some the symptoms may become temporarily worse before they improve, which usually indicates that the body is responding to treatment.
