I went to have a skin tag removed from a more "private" area. It's obviously a high-end clinic given that it serves Oakville, and you arrive to a phalanx of very attractive staff in the waiting area. But importantly, not stuck up. I was greeted warmly without any perception of being the next cog in the assembly line, some questions were asked and then I was given a tablet to record pertinent info about my medical history - you can do the questions by paper if you and such devices don't see eye-to-eye.
It was only a short wait and then a nurse (Leslie) fetched me and went over my needs in a treatment room. She did the prelim exam and then obtained the dermatologist to review. He took a look not just at my tag but also did an examination of the skin on my face, back and chest and gave me feedback and advice about what he was observing. He concurred with the recommendation of the nurse (who it turned out was a nurse practitioner) and then left as it was she who was to perform the procedure. The procedure was very professionally done - she was experienced, no pain was involved (a local anaesthetic and then excised) and it was very quick. Her competency was evident in both demeanour and action - I was never uncomfortable physically and I assess that all but the worst of worrywarts would be minimally stressed given the quality of care.
It should be noted Leslie explained all that she was doing, answered all questions I posed to her, and upon completion she also went over in more detail other aspects of the observations and suggested treatments for my skin (which is "weathered" from having spent a great deal of time outdoors) per the observations of the dermatologist.
This was only a skin tag, not some life or death matter. But it was in a sensitive area and due to its location causing me consistent discomfort. Everything was handled such that my expectations were exceeded in the process and outcome.
Kudos to them and Thank You.
So in context of my medical need, I would give this clinic the best rating possible - 5 stars. BTW I found this clinic via a google search and the reviews on this site were what caused me to pick up the phone. I wanted real medical professionals - doctors, nurses, etc. I had called another medical clinic in Burlington, and they wanted $500 for this! The cost here was less then 1/3 of that and I felt very fair - I would go so far as to say it would surprise me if the charge actually covered their costs.
The dermatologist did make some recommendations for a skin cream and UV block and I did some research and his suggestions were scientifically valid. I will return to the clinic to buy them - their pricing was at market and both actual recommended products it turned out are much better quality then the consumer level stuff. Obviously skin care regime is part of what they do to make money, but when the recommendations are valid and the prices at market (the UV pricing is in fact better then the crappier stuff at the drug store) I am prepared to bite. When treated fairly I respond in kind. BTW there was no pushiness on the discussion of the products - it was well after the procedure and just a part of the post op discussion.
